TV Guide Interview With Alexander Ludwig

vikings-alexander-ludwigAs most of you are aware, Alexander Ludwig is now playing an all grown up Bjorn Lothbrok. Some of you might be familiar with him since he starred in “The Hunger Games”, but some of you might not.

He talked to TV Guide about what it’s like playing Bjorn on “Vikings” and what we can expect to see happen to his character this season. He also talked to Access Hollywood on his new wacky hair cut (at least to those who aren’t fans of the show) and his new accent, as well as Bjorn’s relationships with his parents.

These interviews may contain spoilers…so please read at your own risk!

Here’s a portion of what he told TV Guide;

Bjorn remains a mama’s boy: “When he makes a decision, he sticks to it and when he speaks or when he smiles it actually means something because he rarely does both. And I think that he always knows he made the right choice because it wasn’t his mother’s fault and he wanted to be there,” Ludwig says of Bjorn choosing Lagertha (Kathryn Winnick) over his father.

However, that’s not to say that a part of Bjorn — a large part, we might add — is still conflicted when it comes to Ragnar (Travis Fimmel). “All he wants to do is get that father figure back in his life because he knows that he needs that and he misses his father because he loves him more than anything,” he says. “He knows that to become the Viking that Bjorn Ironside is he needs to learn from his father.”

While Ragnar still has a deep love for his son, Bjorn’s strength and prowess in battle may even inspire jealousy in the Earl. And for once, it might end up being Ragnar living in someone else’s shadow. “Bjorn went on to do some incredible things, arguably more than his father. And you know, the story’s just begun because what Ragnar’s son did was magnificent,” Ludwig teases.

He also revealed a little bit about Bjorn’s love life this season;

But in between dealing with his parent’s complicated love lives, Bjorn will also get one of his own. This season, Bjorn will fall for a girl who isn’t exactly accepted in their society — though that hardly matters to him. “He doesn’t care what anybody else thinks,” Ludwig says. “He doesn’t want to be that guy that follows the rules. He wants to be that guy that does what’s right. And deep down he’s a very good-hearted person.”

In his interview with Access Hollywood, he shared;

Access: We’ve seen your new haircut for the show. Did they have to do an initiation ritual when they shaved half of your head?

Alexander: I had one or two spectators around there, just like laughing ‘cause they couldn’t wait to see what happened. … I was just like, ‘Cut it off. It’s going to be good for me,’ and when it happened I had my girlfriend there with me and she was very supportive and I loved it. It’s funny because Vikings — they’ve got such crazy hairstyles, I went to New York for some press and there are people there just rocking that cut everywhere. It’s hilarious.

Access: So you became an accidental hipster then with your hairdo?

Alexander: That’s exactly what happened and it’s funny though, there’s actually a story behind that. Vikings — some of them used to cut the back of their hair, so when they were in battle, nobody would pull it.

He also talked about Bjorn’s reunion with Ragnar.

Access: How does Bjorn feel about his dad when we first see him? Does absence make the heart grow fonder?

Alexander: Absolutely. He’s really missing a father figure in his life. I think when you first see Bjorn…when he’s aged, he’s just very conflicted.
